# Privacy Policy

**Last updated**: October 5, 2026

## The short version

- **Data collected:** None.
- **Storage:** Your iPhone. Your own iCloud too, if your iPhone's iCloud Backup is on or you turn on Overhang's iCloud copy.
- **Shared with:** No one.
- **Account required:** No.
- **Internet required:** No.

## What stays on your device

Sessions, climbs, workouts, sets, gym configurations, bodyweight entries, and settings live in a local SQLite database on your phone. There is no Overhang server and no cloud sync. The database leaves the phone only three ways: in your iPhone's iCloud Backup when that is on (next paragraph), in Overhang's optional iCloud copy (below), or in a file you save yourself.

If iCloud Backup is on for your iPhone and Overhang is not excluded from it, iOS includes that database in your encrypted device backup, the same as any other app's data. That backup is Apple's, governed by Apple's privacy policy; Overhang cannot read it.

## Apple Health

Under Settings → Apple Health you can turn on two optional, opt-in integrations, both off by default:

- **Import bodyweight** — Overhang reads your weight from Apple Health to keep strength-to-weight ratios and estimated maxes current. The imported weight is stored in the same local database as everything else, and in its backups and exports.
- **Export workouts** — Overhang writes your completed sessions to Apple Health as workouts (activity type and duration, plus a session ID Overhang uses to find the workouts it wrote; no heart rate, no calories). While it is on, Overhang keeps those workouts in step with the app: editing a session's start or end time rewrites its workout, and deleting the session in History removes it from Health. It only ever touches workouts it wrote itself, and it stops touching them the moment you turn the export off.

Overhang has no server, so Health data never reaches me. Imported weight is part of your log and goes where the log goes: into a backup file you save, into a JSON or spreadsheet export you save, into the iCloud copy if you turn it on, and into your iPhone's own device backup described above. Turn either integration off anytime in Settings; iOS access can also be reviewed or revoked under Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.

## Backup and export

Under Settings → Your Data you can write your own copies of your training log:

- **Save Backup File** — one file with everything in the app, including the notes you wrote and any bodyweight imported from Apple Health. It is the file that restores.
- **Export JSON** and **Export Spreadsheets** — readable copies of the same log, including any bodyweight imported from Apple Health, for you to open elsewhere. They do not restore.

Every file goes where you choose in the iOS file picker: on the phone, in iCloud Drive, or in another storage app. Where you save it decides who can read it. A file saved to iCloud Drive or a third-party provider is uploaded by that service under its own terms, not by Overhang. Overhang reads a file back only when you pick a backup to restore.

Restoring replaces what is in the app. The replaced data is kept on the phone for up to a week so the restore can be undone; Overhang discards it after that. If you restore again within that week, what the second restore replaced is discarded right away. Undo still goes back to what you had before the first restore, until that week ends.

## iCloud copy

Under Settings → Your Data → Save a Copy to iCloud you can have Overhang keep a copy of the same backup file in your own iCloud storage. It is off by default, free, and needs no account beyond the Apple Account already signed in on the phone.

- When it is on, Overhang writes a fresh backup file into its private area of your iCloud when you leave the app between sessions, keeping the previous one alongside it. iOS uploads it; Overhang itself makes no network requests.
- The file contains everything the saved backup file does, including any bodyweight imported from Apple Health. It counts against your iCloud storage and is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. Overhang has no server, so these copies never reach me.
- Settings → Your Data shows where the copy stands: uploading, in iCloud as of a date, couldn't upload and why, newer changes waiting for the next backup between sessions, or paused while iCloud is off or you're signed out.
- Overhang looks for those copies only while a fresh install's welcome screen or Settings → Your Data → Restore is open, reading each one's short description to list it. A backup itself is downloaded only when you pick it.
- Turning it off, or deleting the app, stops new copies. The copies already in iCloud stay, in your storage, until you remove Overhang's data under iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. Until then, a fresh install signed in to the same Apple Account offers them back.

## What is never collected

- Personal information (name, email, phone)
- Location data
- Analytics or telemetry
- Crash reports
- Advertising identifiers

Overhang contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs and makes no network requests of its own; with the iCloud copy on, iOS uploads the backup file on the app's behalf. During the beta, Apple's TestFlight may collect crash logs and feedback you choose to send — that data is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and Overhang itself embeds no crash reporting.

## Deletion

Uninstalling Overhang removes the local database and the copy kept for undoing a restore. There is no account to close and no Overhang server copy to delete. Three things stay, all data you placed yourself:

- Workouts written to Apple Health stay there until you delete them — in the Health app (Browse → Activity → Workouts), or, while the export is on, by deleting the session in Overhang's History.
- Backup and export files stay wherever you saved them.
- If the iCloud copy was ever on, its copies stay in your iCloud storage, including any bodyweight imported from Apple Health, and a fresh install signed in to the same Apple Account offers them back. Remove them under iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
